Effective April 26, 2013 the State of Ohio's return-to-play law (ORC 3707.511) creates new and special attention for dealing with possible concussion injuries. While this specifically applies to OHSAA programs, the leagues we participate in, CYO and GCYL, are following this policy. Here are the key points:
All coaches and league officials have been certified through one of the online courses approved by the state policy
Your coach may pull your child from a practice or game if a concussion is suspected. Also, a referee may pull your child from a game if a concussion is suspected
If removed, your child cannot return to play, including practice, until cleared by a physician, or a health professional supervised by a physician (nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or athletic trainer). You will need to give your coach a copy of the note.
